Moving to another country and leaving your loved ones on other country is difficult. One of the goals of Government of Canada is to see that families are brought together. The government of Canada offers many immigration programs for Canadians to sponsor their loved ones to Canada. To sponsor bound relative to Canada minimum age required is 18 years and they can become a permanent residents of Canada under the family category. After becoming permanent residents, they can live, study and work in Canada.

Like other immigration categories, family class sponsorship has specific prerequisites:

The Applicant is at least 18 years old.
The applicant should be a Permanent Resident, Canadian Citizen, or a person registered in Canada as an Indian under the Canadian Indian Act
If the applicant is a Canadian citizen living outside Canada, then they should prove they have a plan to come to Canada while the person they want to sponsor gets permanent Residents.
Applicant should prove they are not receiving Social Assistance (Except Disability)
Applicant should provide the basic needs for the person who they want to sponsor

Who can I sponsor?

You should choose to Sponsor your spouse, common-law partner, dependent children, and dependents if any.

Child

The age limit of dependent child has changed from "under 19" to "under 22" for immigration purposes. This change will apply to all new applications received from October 24, 2017. To qualify as a dependent, your child should be in age limit, and get all the necessities of a dependent child. These two prerequisites to qualify the dependent child must .

a) Age Limit under 22 years old

b) Don’t have a spouse and partner.

After these two prerequisites your children will qualify.

Brother or sister

At present there is no any immediate sponsorship program for brothers and sisters of Canadian citizens or permanent residents. Applicants can apply for permanent residence under economic class immigrants and get the fifteen extra points under Express Entry. There are two alternate ways for family to apply for movement under the family class. The first option includes dependent children under parent’s sponsorship and other sponsored under orphaned close relative program.

Friend

There is no sponsorship program for friend of Canadian Citizen or permanent resident. Applicants may apply for visitor visa for immigration purpose and submit a letter of invitation from friend who is living in Canada. This invitation letter hasn’t guarantee that embassy will issue a visitor visa and they have few measures used to survey the applicant.

Relative

In specific conditions you may qualify to sponsor your relative under “last remaining relative” exception program. This program permits to sponsor any relative who are related by blood or adoption like spouse/common-law partner, child, parent(s)/grandparent(s), sibling, niece/nephew, aunt/uncle of permanent resident or citizen of Canada. If you sponsor a relative to come to Canada as a PR, you must uphold your relative monetarily.

Someone else

Private Sponsorship of Refugees Program, you may to help sponsor refugees from abroad who qualify to come to Canada. Sponsor will be help to refugees for the length of the sponsorship. There are also many organizations that signed sponsorship agreements with the Government of Canada to help support refugees from abroad when they resettle in Canada. These organizations are called Sponsorship Agreement Holders.
